AKP, July 09, 2017 – This year’s Arbor Day, the 27th of its kind, was celebrated in Tuol Prech commune, Ang Snuol district, Kandal province this morning under the royal presidency of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.
Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in cooperation with the Ministry of Royal Palace and Kandal provincial authorities, the annual event is aimed to raise people’s awareness on the importance and advantages of forests and to promote their participation in the reforestation.
Addressing to the celebration, His Majesty the King underlined the socio-economic and environmental values of forests and called on his compatriots to prevent forest fire, to stop illegal logging, hunting and to take part to the maximum in the reforestation.
“Your participation reflects your spirit of responsibility on the future of our forest resources for the current and next generations,” said the Cambodian monarch.
His Majesty the King also asked national and international organisations and development partners to continue supporting in all forms the royal government’s forestry reform programme.
Some 8,830 saplings of valuable tree species were planted on the occasion.
