Cambodian PM Receives Former Japanese First Lady

Phnom Penh, January 16, 2020 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia received here this morning at the Peace Palace visiting former First Lady of Japan H.E. Mrs. Obuchi Chizuko.

 

H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier told reporters after the courtesy meeting that H.E. Mrs. Obuchi Chizuko highly appreciated Cambodia’s rapid progress and development compared to her visit to the Kingdom with her husband H.E. Keizo Obuchi 20 years ago.

She also shared the memory of her visit to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) with her husband at that time.

The former First Lady of Japan expressed thanks to Samdech Techo Hun Sen who represented His Majesty the King of Cambodia to confer a decoration on her, and wished for the closer ties of friendship between Cambodia and Japan.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked H.E. Ms. Obuchi Chizuko for her wish for a quick recovery of his mother-in-law. He recalled the high attention of H.E. Keizo Obuchi to mine clearance reflected by his visit to CMAC.

The Cambodian Premier also recalled the relationship between the two countries when H.E. Keizo Obuchi was in office. H.E. Keizo Obuchi is the second Japanese Prime Minister who visited Cambodia since the 1950s.

H.E. Keizo Obuchi and his government played a key role in assisting Cambodia, especially in the National Election in 1998 after an armed clash in 1997.
