Phnom Penh Facing Four Main Challenges

Phnom Penh, December 03, 2019 –Phnom Penh capital city has been facing with four major challenges, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen told here this morning a group of French-speaking mayors led by H.E. Christian Roger Okemba, Mayor of Brazzaville of the Republic of Congo and Vice President of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF).

H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, told reporters after the courtesy meeting that Samdech Techo Hun Sen briefed the delegation on the history of Phnom Penh, its revival after the fall of Khmer Rouge regime and its current development as well as its four main challenges – traffic congestion and accidents, lack of parking space, waste management, and wastewater treatment issue.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen undelined that these issues need to be considered before promoting new urban development.

For his part, H.E. Christian Roger Okemba expressed his impression of Phnom Penh, saying that it is an ancient city with resilience and beauty, and his delegation will draw Phnom Penh’s experience to develop their respective cities.
