Cambodia Looks for More Cooperation with WTO

AKP Phnom Penh, October 23, 2018 —Cambodia is looking for more cooperation with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) after their successful cooperation in the past 14 years, according to the Cambodian Premier’s official Facebook page.

While receiving Director General of WTO H.E. Roberto Carvalho Azevêdo in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said the cooperation between Cambodia and WTO will be further promoted and hoped that Cambodia will continue to receive support from WTO.

Cambodia has become a member of the WTO for 14 years and the country has so far played important roles such as the Country Coordinator of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in 2017, etc., he added.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also highlighted Cambodia’s commitment to establish its permanent mission at WTO even though its economy is still weak in order to coordinate the work between Cambodia and WTO.

H.E. Roberto Carvalho Azevêdo spoke highly of Cambodia’s active role as a member of WTO, stressing that the Kingdom is the first nation to have a permanent mission at WTO.

Thanks to its smartness, Cambodia could benefit from WTO’s technical assistance worth some US$7.7 million between 2010 and 2018, and in the past four years, 411 Cambodian officials have been trained at different WTO’s activities, underlined the WTO director general.
