The Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, would like to inform the general public as well as members of national and international media outlets as follows:
On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 09:20am, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) coordinated a field visit for the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH), led by the Head of Mission (AOT KH HOM) from the Philippines in conducting an observation, verification, and reporting at Poipet International Border Checkpoint located in Kbal Spean 1 Village, O’ Chrov Distict, Poipet Municipality, Banteay Meanchey Province after the ceasefire came into effect.
It should also be emphasized that these affected locations belong to innocent civilians who were using them for their daily businesses. They suffered the most severe damage and destruction, and to date, these civilian locations are still unable to resume operations for the civilians’ livelihood. This is due to the site was attacked by Thai military forces through airstrikes using F-16 fighter jets in December 2025. Furthermore, it should be noted that this location is situated in Phsar Kandal Village, Phsar Kandal District, Poipet Municipality, Banteay Meanchey Province—deep within Cambodia’s sovereign territory, approximately 8.2 kilometers from the Poipet International Checkpoint.
Cambodia consistently fully supports the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) and emphasizes the indispensable importance of strengthening the role and mandate of the AOT in conducting on-site visits to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, as stipulated in the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025; the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025; and other related agreements aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust.
The public, as well as national and international journalists, are hereby informed of the facts regarding this matter.
