Cambodian PM Encourages the Public to Combat COVID-19 Bravely

Phnom Penh, March 10, 2020 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, continued to encourage all stakeholders and the public to fight against COVID-19 as it has been affecting more than 100 countries and territories over the world.

The Premier made the encouragement while presiding over here at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning the graduation ceremony of more than 3,400 students of Vanda Institute.

“Fear and discrimination are more dangerous than COVID-19,” stressed Samdech Techo Hun Sen. “Don’t use fear and discrimination to settle the problem of COVID-19 epidemic, but courage to combat it. Please transform the fear into an opportunity to strengthen self-protection through hygiene.”

“If we lack hygiene, we will be infected with many diseases, not just COVID-19,” he continued.

“We need to stand bravely. We can start from our own individual, family to community by cooperating in applying hygiene […],” he said.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to cooperate internationally and with the neighbouring nations in fighting against COVID-19.

Moreover, the Prime Minister encouraged those who have suspicious symptoms of COVID-19 to seek medical assistance from health officers.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), the current outbreak of new coronavirus disease or COVID-19 was first reported from Wuhan, China, on Dec. 31, 2019. Over the weekend, WHO crossed 100,000 reported cases of COVID-19 in 100 countries. Some 80,000 have been reported in China alone, more than 70 percent of which have recovered and been discharged.
