Phnom Penh, March 13, 2020 –The National Assembly (NA) has voted to approve the draft law on the establishment of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation.
The approval was made in an NA’s extraordinary session held here on Mar. 13 under the chairmanship of NA President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin with the participation of 117 lawmakers, including Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
The decision to change from the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation is to respond to the social and economic development of Cambodia in accordance with the context of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and towards the country’s development goals of 2030 and 2050, underlined H.E. Minister Cham Prasidh.
According to a letter of the Office of the Council of Ministers, along with the change of the ministry’s name, two new institutions – the General Department and Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation – have been allowed to be established, by employing existing related personnel without recruiting new staff.
