Cambodia and South Korea Speak Highly of Bilateral Relations

Phnom Penh, February 04, 2020 –Top leaders of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Korea (ROK) have highly appreciated the relationship and cooperation between the two nations.

The appreciation was made during the meeting between Cambodian Premier Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Moon Jae-in, President of ROK, in Seoul this afternoon, during the former’s stay in ROK for the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) World Summit 2020, according to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister.

H.E. Moon Jae-in said the relationship between Cambodia and ROK has grown to a mature stage. He thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen who had initiated the Mekong-ROK Summit held in Korea last November with success.

The South Korean president also reviewed some of major achievements attained by both sides in their cooperation and expressed his support for Cambodia as the host of the 13th ASEM Summit later this year. He hoped that Cambodia will support a meeting on green economy to be held in ROK this year as well.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked ROK for its warm hospitality for him and his delegation and apologised for his absence at the Mekong-ROK Summit.

The Cambodian Prime Minister underlined that the bilateral relations between the two countries have reached a deep and comprehensive stage since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1996.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked the South Korean side to encourage more investors to do business in Cambodia.

In the meeting, both leaders also discussed the bilateral cooperation in the areas of tourism, connectivity, agriculture, infrastructure, human resources, trade, migrant workers, and so on as well as the Korean peninsula issue.
