Phnom Penh, December 10, 2019 –Cambodia is hosting in Phnom Penh the 19th General Assembly of the Confederation of Veterans in South East Asia (VECONAC).
The event was officially opened at the Peace Palace this morning under the presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Addressing to the auspicious event, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his hope that the Cambodian Veterans Association and VECONAC will continue to cooperate closely in the spirit of solidarity and high responsibility to overcome all challenges and attain new achievements for the interest of all veterans and their respective families with an aim to realise the common goals of VECONAC: peace, prosperity, harmony, along with enhanced respect of rights and dignity of the veterans in the region and the world.
The Cambodian Premier also encouraged VECONAC to jointly develop policies, action plans, and mechanisms to defend the rights and benefits of veterans and promote their role in the national development activities.
Veterans must be encouraged psychologically, honoured, and have access to decent living standard in accordance with the socio-economic progress and to capacity building, underlined Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
VECONAC was established on Dec. 19, 1980 and is composed of veterans associations of the ten ASEAN Member States.
The VECONAC’s 32nd Executive Board Meeting and 19th General Assembly have been taking place in Phnom Penh from Dec. 8 to 12, 2019.
