Phnom Penh, December 03, 2019 –Visiting Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) H.E. Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo has paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, during the courtesy meeting held here at the Peace Palace this morning, H.E. Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo praised Cambodia for turning itself from a country receiving UN peacekeepers to a country sending blue helmet troops to join UN peacekeeping missions, and encouraged the Kingdom to participate more actively in the peacekeeping operations under the UN umbrella.

The OIF secretary general told Samdech Techo Hun Sen of her visit in Cambodia, the purpose of which is to attend the 39th General Assembly of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) and to promote the cooperation between Cambodia and OIF.

H.E. Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo requested Cambodia to take part in carrying out some concrete projects: promoting French teaching, boosting trade between OIF members, and organising events to mark the 50th founding anniversary of OIF to be held in March and December next year.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that as a founding member of OIF, Cambodia will continue its active role and participate in organising the commemoration of the OIF’s 50th founding anniversary.

For the cooperation among the French-speaking countries, he added, the relations in the fields of economy, trade and investment between them should be promoted because the political ties generally started from the economic ties.
