Phnom Penh, October 05, 2019 — The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) is firmly committed to continue solving the remaining border issues with Viet Nam based on the national and international laws as well as international practices.
The commitment was announced by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in his speech at the signing ceremony of a supplementary treaty to the border treaty of 1985 and the supplementary treaty of 2005 between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, held in Hanoi, Viet Nam on Oct. 5.
The RGC, he added, will transform the Cambodia-Viet Nam borderline as well as that with Laos and Thailand into a true international border and a wealthy, developed and harmonised area without fear.
Today’s signing of the two historical documents is to acknowledge the completion of 84 percent of the land boundary demarcation work, achieved by both nations in the past 14 years, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
The achievement is resulted from the joint efforts in solving the issues with fraternity and mutual understanding, he underlined.
“On behalf of the RGC, I am very proud that we had overcome all obstacles and almost finished the border demarcation between our two countries,” said the Cambodian Premier, appreciating highly the Joint Border Committee and other concerned parties of both countries for their close cooperation and efforts toward the current border achievement.
Besides, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted Cambodia’s continued attention to promote development at the border area through construction of roads, markets, and production areas for continued common development at the border.
“Today, apart from the border achievement, we also reached border trade treaty in response to the promotion of cooperation and development in the Greater Mekong Sub-region as well as in contribution to increasing good cooperation among the Southeast Asian Nations,” stressed Samdech Techo Prime Minister.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has been paying a two-day official visit in Viet Nam since yesterday.
