Phnom Penh, June 23, 2019 –Cambodia and Singapore have considered their recent disagreement as a short nightmare in their relationship and agreed to continue their good ties.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, reached the agreement during their bilateral meeting in Bangkok, Thailand this morning, on the sidelines of the 34th ASEAN Summit, according to H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation after the meeting.
H.E. Prak Sokhonn continued that the two leaders acknowledged that people had different opinions on the past and no one could change the past, therefore they should leave it there.
Both Premiers, he added, agreed to join hands to continue boosting the two countries’ relations and cooperation.
In late May, H.E. Lee Hsien Loong posted a message on his Facebook page related to the presence of the Vietnamese troops in Cambodia after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979 – the content deemed offensive by Cambodian leadership.
