Phnom Penh, June 05, 2019 –The Senate of Cambodia has expressed its full support for the cooperation between the Governments of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, especially in the fields of economy, trade, technology, culture, transportation and education.
Samdech Say Chhum lauded the cooperation while receiving a courtesy call from H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, at the Senate Palace yesterday.
The senate president also urged both governments to further foster trade and promote tourism, cultural and people-to-people exchange.
Samdech Say Chhum also voiced his support for Timor-Leste’s membership of ASEAN and ASEAN-Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and mentioned about the important visit of H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares in Cambodia to strengthen and expand the ties of friendship and cooperation for mutual interest of both countries and people through mutual support in international cooperation framework and exchange visit of leaders and high-ranking officials.
Samdech Say Chhum also took the opportunity to send his regards to H.E. Arao Noe da Costa Amaral, President of National Parliament of Timor-Leste and extended his invitation to the latter to visit Cambodia at his convenience, through H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares.
For his part, H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares praised Cambodia for its fast development and spoke highly of Cambodia’s leadership in the country development, which is a good experience for Timor-Leste to learn from.
On the same day, H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares also paid a courtesy visit to Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly.
On the occasion, Samdech Heng Samrin expressed his support for Timore-Leste’s ASEAN and AIPA membership, adding that Cambodia is pleased to share experience with ASEAN member countries to reduce gap and development in the region.
