A Senior Chinese Official Pays Courtesy Visit to Cambodian PM

Phnom Penh, January 22, 2019 –On his second day of his official visit in China, from Jan. 20 to 23, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia, met with Minister Song Tao, Director of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

According to the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK), Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Minister Song Tao had in-depth discussions on the promotion and expansion of cooperation between the states, parties and private sector of both nations, especially the people-to-people connectivity.

Minister Song Tao lauded the relationship between Cambodia and China, stressing that Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping has regarded Cambodia as an “iron friend” and China will continue its support to the development of Cambodia as well as to the protection of Cambodia’s sovereignty and independence.

Minister Song Tao also highlighted some more supporting programmes for Cambodia’s prioritised sectors, including human resource training, particularly among Cambodian officials.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he is proud of the relationship between the two countries and expressed his gratitude to China for its assistance to Cambodia in all sectors. China’s One Belt, One Road policy, in line with Cambodia’s Rectangular Strategy, is a “good road” to further boost their relations and cooperation.
