Phnom Penh, January 21, 2019 –Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen held talks in Beijing, China this morning with a delegation of Huaneng Group, the operator of Lower Sesan 2 hydropower plant in Cambodia, led by its Chairman Mr. Shu Yinbiao.
According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s official Facebook page, during the meeting, Mr. Shu Yinbiao told the Premier of his company’s plan to invest in solar energy, build oil and gas pipeline from Preah Sihanouk province to Phnom Penh capital, and construct expressway in Cambodia.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated Huaneng Group on its achievements, encouraged the company to further invest in Cambodia and gave green light to the company to conduct feasibility study to invest in green energy production in the Kingdom.
Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant was constructed in the northeastern province of Stung Treng and inaugurated late last year. It is a joint venture between China’s Huaneng Hydrolancang International Energy holding 51 percent of the stake, Cambodia’s Royal Group owning 39 percent and Vietnamese EVN International Joint Stock Company possessing 10 percent. The project was developed in a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) form for a 45-year period – five year for construction and 40 years for business with a total investment capital of some US$781.52 million. It is the biggest hydropower project in the country. It has started its first phase operations in November last year after almost four years of construction.
