Phnom Penh, January 16, 2019 –Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, held separate talks yesterday afternoon with visiting President of NA of Vietnam H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China H.E. Bai Machilin, on the sidelines of the 27th Annual Meeting of Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-27) in Siem Reap province.
Samdech Heng Samrin spoke highly of their presence at the APPF-27, which, he said, contributes to the success of the forum as well as to the stronger ties of traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between their countries.
In the bilateral meeting with H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the Cambodian NA president thanked Vietnam for its contribution and assistance for the peace seeking process, national reconciliation, reconstruction and development of Cambodia.
For her part, H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan praised Cambodia for the smooth organisation of the APPF-27 and for its warm hospitality and affirmed to take part in all programmes of APPF-27. She further reaffirmed the Vietnamese NA’s continued support and cooperation with the Cambodian NA.
During the talk with H.E. Bai Machilin, Samdech Heng Samrin said that the participation of the NPC delegation in the forum will provide more impetus to the existing cooperation between the two legislative bodies through the exchange of experiences and of visits at all levels.
He recalled that last year, the two countries solemnly commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations. Closer cooperation between the two countries is a firm foundation for the implementation of comprehensive partnership cooperation which has brought about enormous fruitful outcomes for both countries, he underlined.
H.E. Bai Machilin extended his congratulations to the parliament of Cambodia for hosting the APPF-27, which is a crucial forum for promoting peace and sustainable development. He lauded all achievements and development scored by Cambodia, saying that the People’s Republic of China strongly supports Cambodia and pledged to continue assistance for its national development.
