Cambodian PM Presides Over the Commemoration of 25th Anniversary of ICC-Angkor

AKP Phnom Penh, December 04, 2018 -Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, presided over in Siem Reap province this morning the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the International Coordinating Committee for the Safeguarding and Development of the Historic Site of Angkor (ICC-Angkor).

Samdech Techo Hun Sen highly valued the achievements attained by the ICC-Angkor in the past 25 years, and expressed his profound thanks to all stakeholders for their active contribution to the safeguarding and development of the Historic Site of Angkor.

Until now, the ICC-Angkor is a key international mechanism for this world well-known architecture. The ICC-Angkor is co-chaired by France and Japan. UNESCO ensures the Standing Secretariat.

This was created after Angkor was inscribed on the World Heritage List on Dec. 14, 1992. ICC-Angkor was one of the conditions given by the World Heritage Committee to accept the Angkor Site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Since that time, the ICC-Angkor has convened regularly twice a year, thus consistently following up on all operations being carried out on the site. It is the international mechanism for coordination of assistance to be extended by different countries and organisations, and ensures the consistency of the different projects, defines, when necessary, conservation standards and calls the attention of the concerned parties when required.

According to a recent news release from the Angkor Enterprise – government institution in charge of Angkor income management – Cambodia generated US$104,527,531 from selling entrance ticket fees to 2,323,168 foreign visitors to Angkor Archaeological Park for the first 11 months of 2018, up about 9 percent compared to the same period last year.

Of the amount, it pointed out, US$4,646,336 will be donated to the foundation to support Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals.

Last year, the Angkor Archaeological Park attracted 2.45 million international visitors, generating a total income of US$107 million.
