AKP Phnom Penh, October 19, 2018 —Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia has welcomed the cooperation between Cambodia and Russia in different sectors.
While meeting with his Russian counterpart H.E. Dmitry Medvedev in Brussels, Belgium yesterday, on the sidelines of the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the Cambodian Premier highly valued support from the Russian side in the field of media, particularly the cooperation between Cambodia’s news agency, Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) and Russia’s news agency TASS which is planning to open a bureau in Cambodia in the near future.
Bilateral cooperation in the areas of counterterrorism, security, trade, investment, health and so on were also discussed during this high-level meeting.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen informed the Russian Prime Minister of the 13th ASEM Summit to be hosted by Cambodia and invited him to attend this summit in 2020.
Regarding the debts Cambodia owed to the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Samdech Techo Prime Minister asked the Russian side to transform the debts into investment in Cambodia.
In reply, H.E. Dmitry Medvedev affirmed Russia’s continued cooperation with Cambodia and welcomed the Kingdom’s request over the debt issue, stressing that it is a good priority that Russia wants to help Cambodia.
H.E. Dmitry Medvedev also mentioned about Russia’s planned technical assistance to Cambodia as well as support to the renovation of some ancient Khmer temples, beside the restoration of Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital.
Cambodia and Russia are going to organise a meeting of intergovernmental commission next year.
