Samdech Techo Hun Sen Receives Vice Chairman of EU-ASEAN Business Council

AKP Phnom Penh, October 18, 2018 —Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia met on Oct. 18 with Mr. Martin Hayes, Vice Chairman of EU-ASEAN Business Council and President of Bosch for Southeast Asia, during the Premier’s stay in Brussels, Belgium for the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit .

According to a special report of the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK), Mr. Martin Hayes raised about a possible visit of members of EU-ASEAN Business Council to Cambodia in 2019 and exchanged views on the situation of dollarisation in Cambodia and EU-Cambodia trade.

EU-ASEAN Business Council’s index shows that its members will continue their investments in Cambodia thanks to its more favorable conditions compared to other ASEAN countries, he underlined, pointing out that the EU-ASEAN Business Council will discuss the suspension of “Everything But Arms” (EBA) preferential system with the European Council and if it is really withdrawn, the EU companies will be affected and EBA will be considered as an EU’s foreign policy tool in Cambodia.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his delight with Mr. Martin Hayes’ comments and welcomed the EU-ASEAN Business Council’s statement over the real situation in Cambodia. This is a just statement, i.e. the European Council should listen to the business and civil society world, he added.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister also welcomed the planned visit of EU-ASEAN Business Council’s delegation to Cambodia next year and invited the Council to attend the ASEM Summit in 2020 to be hosted by Cambodia.
