Editorial:The Green Sprout Exhibition: Growing a Nation That Protects Nature

JULY 11, 2026
Every great movement begins with a simple idea.
The Green Sprout Exhibition begins with one small tree.
But its purpose is much greater than planting trees.
It is about cultivating a nation that understands, values, and protects its natural resources.
From 10 to 13 July, the Ministry of Environment will open its doors to the public for the Green Sprout Exhibition, inviting every Cambodian to take home free tree saplings and become part of a nationwide movement to conserve nature.
This exhibition is not simply an event.
It is an invitation to action.
Natural resources are the foundation of Cambodia’s prosperity. Our forests provide clean air and fresh water. Our rivers irrigate farms and sustain fisheries. Our mountains and protected areas shelter wildlife and attract visitors from around the world. Our mangrove forests protect our coastlines, while our biodiversity supports agriculture, tourism, and healthy ecosystems.
Everything we depend on begins with nature.
Yet natural resources cannot protect themselves.
They depend on people who understand their value and are willing to care for them.
That is the purpose of the Green Sprout Exhibition.
Every tree sapling distributed represents far more than a young plant. It represents cleaner air, healthier soil, stronger watersheds, richer biodiversity, cooler communities, and greater resilience to climate change and the impacts of El Niño.
A tree planted today will continue serving Cambodia for decades. It will absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, provide shade, conserve water, protect wildlife, stabilize the soil, and create a healthier environment for future generations.
The Ministry of Environment has prepared five million tree saplings for free distribution to the public this year as part of its long-term strategy to plant at least one million trees annually and expand Cambodia’s green cover through public participation.
This ambitious goal cannot be achieved by government alone.
It requires students, teachers, parents, monks, farmers, workers, businesses, civil servants, community organizations, and every Cambodian family to become partners in conservation.
The Green Sprout Exhibition offers every visitor an opportunity to become part of that partnership.
Come with your children.
Learn about Cambodia’s forests, wildlife, protected areas, biodiversity, and environmental conservation.
Receive a free tree sapling.
Take it home.
Plant it.
Care for it.
Watch it grow alongside your family.
Natural resource conservation is not only about protecting forests deep inside national parks. It begins in our homes, schools, villages, pagodas, farms, and workplaces. Every tree planted in a community strengthens the health of the nation’s environment.
The exhibition also reminds us that conservation and development go hand in hand. Healthy forests provide clean water for agriculture, protect biodiversity, reduce disaster risks, strengthen ecotourism, create rural livelihoods, and improve public health. Conserving natural resources is therefore an investment in economic growth, food security, and national well-being.
Future generations will inherit the decisions we make today.
If we plant trees, they will inherit cooler cities, cleaner air, richer biodiversity, healthier rivers, and stronger forests.
If we protect nature, they will inherit a Cambodia that remains beautiful, resilient, and prosperous.
The Green Sprout Exhibition is therefore more than a celebration of trees.
It is a celebration of responsibility.
A celebration of community.
A celebration of hope.
Most importantly, it is a celebration of every Cambodian who believes that protecting nature is one of the highest forms of patriotism.
From 10 to 13 July, we warmly invite every Cambodian to visit the Green Sprout Exhibition at the Ministry of Environment.
Take home a free tree sapling.
Plant it with pride.
Protect it with care.
Together, let us transform millions of green sprouts into millions of living symbols of our love for Cambodia.
Because when we conserve our natural resources, we are not only protecting nature.
We are protecting our economy.
We are protecting our health.
We are protecting our children’s future.
And we are ensuring that Cambodia remains a clean, green, resilient, and sustainable home for generations to come.

Editorial:Trees Give Birds a Home—and Birds Help Keep Nature Alive

One of the most beautiful sounds in nature is the song of a bird greeting the morning. It is a sound that brings peace to our hearts and reminds us that nature is healthy and alive.
