AKP, April 05, 2017 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, presided over the official inauguration ceremony of Niroth Water Treatment Plant-Stage 2 worth over US$60 million, in Sangkat Niroth, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh this morning.
French Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Jean-Claude Poimboeuf, French Development Agency (AFD) Country Director for Cambodia Mr. Philippe Steinmetz, and H.E. Sim Sitha, Director General of Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPSWA) were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
On the occasion, the premier expressed his congratulations on this new achievement, saying that it will further boost the clean water supply to citizens in the capital city.
This new plant can supply a total of 560,000 cubic metres of clean water a day for 331,000 residents in Phnom Penh suburbs and Takhmao city, Kandal province.
The construction work was carried out by Vinci Constructions Grands Projets while the supervision was done by SAFEGE, said a press release issued at the inauguration ceremony.
According to the same source, Niroth Water Treatment Plant was designed to be built in two steps. The first stage, called “Niroth 1″, has been producing 130,000 cubic metres of clean water per day since January 2013, while the construction of the second stage started in August 2014. The construction work was co-financed by the AFD and PPWSA.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged PPSWA to further expand the clean water connections and consider the possibility to reduce the prices as well.
Last year, PPSWA supplied the clean water to 309,300 connections, all of which are metered with Class C and B water metres with diametres of 15mm – 40mm and of 80mm and above, respectively.
Currently, the water prices are classified in different criteria from 550 to 1,450 Riel per cubic metre.
