Cambodia Proud of Athletes’ Performance in Recent Summer Paralympic Games

AKP, August 18, 2017 –Cambodia is proud of the good performance of two Cambodian athletes who won a gold and a bronze medals at the recent Summer Paralympic Games in the Republic of Korea.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, made the remarks while presiding over here this morning the conferment ceremony of medals for Cambodian youth paralympians of the Summer Paralympics Games in South Korea and the get-together with the Cambodian Paralympic delegation for the 9th ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to call on the public not to discriminate against, hate and look down on people with disabilities, and appealed to the latter not to lose hope as they are physically, not psychological disabled. “I want to protect all persons with disabilities from others’ insults,” he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also encouraged the Cambodian athletes to do their best to bring more success to the nation and recommended those who will take part in the 9th ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur to respect well the sport regulations and discipline and not to use any prohibited substances.

On the occasion, Mr. Yav Vannak who won the gold medal was awarded with the royal government’s cash prize of 80 million Riel (about US$20,000) and US$10,000 from Prime Minister Hun Sen and his spouse, while the bronze medalist, Mr. Yoy Kosal, got 24 million Riel (approximately US$6,000) and US$3,000 as awards from the royal government and the premier, respectively.

Their coaches as well as the other athlete who won any medal also received cash rewards.
