Cambodia and Japan Sign Exchange of Notes on ODA for Social and Economic Development in Cambodia

 Phnom Penh, March 24, 2020 –An Exchange of Notes of Japan’s official development assistance worth US$310 million to Cambodia for economic and social development was signed here this morning.

The document was inked at the Peace Palace between H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and H.E. Mikami Masahiro, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, under the witness of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Exchange of Notes covers the implementation of three grant aid projects and two soft loan projects.

The grand aids are for projects of Expansion of Water Supply System in Takhmao city, Kandal province (approximately US$31 million), Integrated Mine Clearance and Landmine Victim Assistance (approximately US$9 million), and Economic and Social Development Programme (approximately US$2.7 million).

The two soft loan projects are for National Road No. 5 improvement for Thlea Ma’am – Battambang and Sri Sophorn – Poipet section, and for Prek Kdam – Thlea Ma’am section, with approximately US$161 million and US$106.5 million, respectively.

The grant aid and soft loan assistance extended by the Government of Japan will significantly contribute to promoting the economic and social development of the Kingdom of Cambodia and will further strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperative between the two nations, underlined the press release.

Japan is a major donor for Cambodia’s development, and a main buyer and investor in the Kingdom.
