Cambodian PM Introduces Another Pre-emptive Measure against COVID-19 Pandemic

Phnom Penh, March 23, 2020 –Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has asked the provincial authorities to further get prepared for COVID-19 pandemic.

According to his audio message shared among the media, Samdech Techo Hun Sen advised all provincial authorities, especially health departments to select any appropriate places, including school buildings, hotels etc. as a pre-emptive measure against the mass spread of COVID 19.

The Premier encouraged the competent authorities at the provincial level to equip the selected buildings with necessary medical equipment as well as water and electricity.

All provincial governors, who are the chairmen of the respective Provincial Commissions for Combating COVID-19, have to be well prepared for the pandemic, he added.

There is no problem for Phnom Penh because we have the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, Great Duke (former Intercontinental Hotel) …,  but the challenge is for the provinces that need to urgently find suitable places to receive the patients, he underlined.

As of this morning, Cambodia has detected 86 COVID-19 cases. Two of them have already recovered.

According to World Health Organisation, there are now 294,110 confirmed cases globally with 12,944 deaths in 186 countries, and territories.
