PM Announces to Visit Covid-19 Infected Man in Siem Reap

Phnom Penh, March 09, 2020 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning announced to visit the Cambodian man with confirmed Covid-19 infection in Siem Reap province.

At the inauguration ceremony of National Road No. 55 and the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of National Road No. 10, held in Veal Veng district, Pursat province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the infected man has been under special care from medical doctors.

The Premier underlined that his planned visit will reduce the current panic among people.

Up to now, he added, more than 110 schools, including vocational training schools under the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, in Siem Reap provincial city have temporarily closed, and Angkor Sankranta, to be held on the occasion of the Khmer Traditional New Year, will be also postponed in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The Cambodian man, 38, was confirmed positive for the deadly virus on Mar. 7, after having had direct contact with a Japanese man who was tested positive for Covid-19 after departing from Siem Reap province to Japan’s Nagoya, with a transit in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

The infected Cambodian man is currently put under quarantine at Siem Reap referral hospital while the other three persons – a man and two women – who also had direct contact with the Japanese man, as well as the Cambodian man’s three family members were tested negative, according to the Ministry of Health.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also thanked medical practitioners for their efforts in fighting against the spread of Covid-19.

The Cambodian man is the second case of Covid-19 recorded in Cambodia, after a 60-year-old Chinese man, who was tested positive in late January, was successfully cured a few weeks later and returned to his home country.
