Cambodian PM Receives Japanese Senior Military Officer

Phnom Penh, February 27, 2020 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received here at the Peace Palace this afternoon visiting Chief of Staff of Japan Ground Self-Defence Force Gen. Goro Yuasa.

H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister told reporters after the meeting that Samdech Techo Hun Sen requested Gen. Goro Yuasa to help train Cambodian helmet troops before they participate in peacekeeping missions under the UN umbrella.

The Premier also sought Japan’s assistance to ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre whose headquarters is in Cambodia, and expressed his full support for the existing military cooperation between Cambodia and Japan.

At the same time, Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked Japan to contribute to building capacities of Cambodian armed personel in disaster management. He further underlined the good bilateral cooperation between the two nations and thanked Japan for its contribution to Cambodia’s peace building, reconstruction and development.

For his part, Gen. Goro Yuasa pledged to bring Cambodia’s requests to the Government of Japan and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthen mine clearance cooperation and assist Cambodia in training its blue helmet troops.
