Phnom Penh, February 26, 2020 –The newly-built National Road No. 58 linking Poipet city in Banteay Meanchey province to Samrong city of Oddar Meanchey province was put into official use this morning.
The inauguration ceremony was held in Sangkat Psar Kandal, Poipet city, some 400 kilometres from Phnom Penh capital, under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wentian.
According to H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transports, the construction of the over-170-kilometre-long road was funded by a financing from the Government of China and a budget of the Royal Government of Cambodia with a total cost of some US$123 million.
Conducted by Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd. under technical control of Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co., Ltd., the construction lasted 43 months, from June 2015 to January 2019, he added.
National Road No. 58 is a strategic road for national defence and economic and tourism development, underlined H.E. Senior Minister, continuing that it will contribute to enhancing internal connectivity and improving local people’s living standard and logistics system of Cambodia.
