PM Urges to Speed Up Trials of Female Offenders

Phnom Penh, February 17, 2020 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has called for the acceleration of trials of female offenders.

At the annual meeting of Cambodian National Council for Women (CNCW) held here at the Peace Palace this morning, the Premier encouraged the CNCW, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Ministry of Justice to continue cooperating with the Ministry of Interior to accelerate the trials of female offenders as well as to find lawyers for them.

There would be currently more than 20,000 female offenders whose cases have not been heard yet, he pointed out.

The Prime Minister has been paying high attention to this issue and last year, he launched his own lawyer team to provide legal assistance to the poor and vulnerable women.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also asked the Ministry of Labour to monitor female workers who work abroad, by taking care of their safety and protecting them from any abuse.
