Phnom Penh, February 12, 2020 –Japan will continue its support for Cambodia in different sectors, including mine clearance and organisation of Asia-Europe Summit this year and ASEAN Summit in 2022.
The continued support was underlined here this morning during the meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Mikami Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant of Cambodian Premier.
In the meeting, H.E. Mikami Masahiro told Samdech Techo Hun Sen that Japan is considering increasing more funds for mine clearance in Cambodia and assisting the Kingdom in hosting successfully the Asia-Europe Summit in November this year, and the ASEAN Summit in 2022.
The Japanese ambassador appreciated Cambodia’s economic progress and lauded the cooperation between the two countries, mainly in the fields of economy and investment.
H.E. Mikami Masahiro also mentioned about the cooperation between both countries’ institutions on electricity, master plan on Japanese investments in Cambodia, master plan on expansion of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, construction law drafting, clean water, waste management and so on.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the Japanese ambassador for his high evaluation of the good cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, and pledged to further facilitate the Japanese investments in Cambodia by reducing the electricity prices by one cent per kWh from February this year onwards and by improving transport, etc.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their continuous assistance to Cambodia.
