Cambodian PM Supports Initiative for ASEAN-China Summit on Coronavirus

 Phnom Penh, February 11, 2020 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, this morning expressed his support for any initiative for urgent ASEAN-China Summit and international meetings on novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

“In the near future, there will be the Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vientiane, Laos and if the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and China initiate any urgent summit on regional response to 2019-nCoV, I’ll support it,” said Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the groundbreaking ceremony for the improvement project of National Road (NR) No. 2 and NR22 from Kandal province to Takeo province.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister also supported the organisation of other international forums to discuss measures to respond to the deadly virus.

Besides, the Premier called for non-discrimination against those affected by the 2019-nCoV. “2019-nCoV is not the problem of China, but that of the region and the world that we should work together to deal with it,” he underlined, extending his condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives due to the 2019-nCoV and his congratulations to those who have been recovered and discharged from hospital.

2019-nCoV was first reported in Wuhan city, China’s Hubei province in December 2019. Now, it is affecting 28 countries and territories around the world.
