Cambodian PM Calls for Non-discrimination against Coronavirus-infected People

Phnom Penh, February 11, 2020 –Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has appealed for non-discrimination against those affected by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

The Premier made the public appeal here this morning at the groundbreaking ceremony for the improvement project of National Road (NR) No. 2 and NR22 from Kandal province to Takeo province.

“Don’t be afraid of 2019-nCoV, don’t discriminate (against the infected people) […], anyway preventive measures need to continue,” he said.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined that 2019-nCoV is not the problem of China, but that of the region and the world that we should work together to deal with it.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to express his condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives due to this virus and to extend his congratulations to those who have been recovered and discharged from hospital.

Yesterday, the only 2019-nCoV-infected patient in Cambodia was discharged from the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Referral Hospital after being hospitalised for two weeks.

Ministry of Health’s Spokesperson H.E. Ly Sovann told AKP that the 60-year old Chinese tourist – Jia Jianhua – was discharged from hospital in the morning of Feb. 10 after receiving thorough treatment and being tested negative for the 2019-nCov thrice by the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia.

2019-nCoV was first reported in Wuhan city, China’s Hubei province in December 2019.  Now, it is affecting 28 countries and territories around the world.
