President of Smart Axiata Pays Courtesy Call on Cambodian PM

Phnom Penh, December 17, 2019 –Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen held talks here at the Peace Palace this morning with Mr. Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, President of Smart Axiata Co., Ltd., a major telecommunications service provider in Cambodia.

According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to Cambodian Prime Minister, in the courtesy meeting, Mr. Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim reported to the Premier about his company’s activity in Cambodia, saying that it has invested some US$1.4 billion in the Kingdom and is planning to invest more in modern technology such as 5G.

Smart’s investment is not only for profits, but also contributes to the social and economic development of Cambodia, he underlined, adding that the company will continue expanding its network to rural areas as well.

Mr. Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim also sought Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s recommendations to enhance the company’s contribution to the development of Cambodian society.

In response, Samdech Techo Prime Minister expressed thanks to Mr. Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim and Smart Axiata for their contribution to the development of Cambodia, especially in education, environment, health and so on. He recommended the company to consider expanding its scope to cover the rural area because the Cambodian people, mainly the students, need to absorb technology to increase their knowledge. He also urged the company to assist schools as well as hospitals to have access to the internet.

Besides, Samdech Techo Hun Sen praised Smart Axiata for its speed and reliable services, and encouraged the company to strengthen its international services.
