Chinese Voluntary Ophthalmologists to Continue Humanitarian Mission to Prey Veng Province

Phnom Penh, December 16, 2019 –A group of Chinese voluntary medical doctors will continue to provide eye treatment and surgery for Cambodian people in Prey Veng province, after the success of their mission in Kampong Cham province.

The commitment was made by visiting H.E. Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of Belt and Road Hong Kong Centre, during his courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, here at the Peace Palace this afternoon.

In the past nine months, pointed out H.E. Leung Chun-ying, some 6,208 eye patients throughout Kampong Cham province have been treated successfully by the group of Chinese voluntary ophthalmologists.

H.E. Leung Chun-ying also told Samdech Techo Hun Sen of the mission of his team, saying that it is for humanitarian purposes and to promote the people-to-people relations in conformity with the Belt and Road policy of China.

For the success of his mission in Prey Veng province, H.E. Leung Chun-ying sought continued support from the Cambodian Ministry of Health to his team.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen profoundly thanked H.E. Leung Chun-ying and his team for their humanitarian mission and asked them to also provide eye treatment to people in neighbouring provinces of Prey Veng, including Thbong Khmum and Svay Rieng.
