Phnom Penh, November 12, 2019 –Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon expected higher number of visitors during this year’s Water Festival holiday than last year.
Speaking to reporters this morning at the pavilion for foreign tourists erected by the Ministry of Tourism near the honorary pavilion in front of the Royal Palace, H.E. Minister said that last year, there were about 4.5 million visitors enjoying the three-day Water Festival celebration in Phnom Penh, and if we count those who travelled to other tourism destinations throughout the country, the figure rose to more than 5 million.
“I think this year, [the number of visitors] is not less, but higher than [that] in the previous year,” stressed H.E. Thong Khon.
Water Festival is one of the biggest and most popular festivals in Cambodia. Generally, people from across the country gather in the capital city, mainly along the riverside, to enjoy boat races, parade of illuminated floats, firework display, art performances, and many other entertainment activities.
