PM Calls for Attention to Security and Order Maintenance during Water Festival

Phnom Penh, November 10, 2019 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has called on the competent authorities at all levels to pay high attention to ensuring public order and security for the citizens and foreign visitors during the Water Festival, both in Phnom Penh and in province.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the appeal in a message posted on his official Facebook page this morning.

Today is the first day of the Water Festival 2019, said the Premier, adding that people from across the country have flocked to the riverside, in Phnom Penh to watch boat races, while competent forces have been deployed to maintain security and order.

Besides watching boat races, people can buy goods at commercial booths at many locations, he continued.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also reaffirmed the significance of full peace that allows Cambodia to organise and enjoy such big annual festival.

According to the National Police, more than 10,000 security forces have been deployed at different locations in the east and west sides of Tonle Sap River.

Boat races, “Loy Pratip” (floating of illuminated boats), “Sampeas Preah Khè” (Moon Festival) and “Ok Ambok” (eating Ambok: Cambodia’s traditional rice flakes with banana and coconut juice), are the main events of the three-day Water Festival.
