Ministry of Tourism’s Pavilion Attracts Nearly 2,000 Foreign Visitors on First Day of Water Festival

Phnom Penh, November 11, 2019 –The Ministry of Tourism’s pavilion erected for international visitors attracted almost 2,000 of them, on the first day of the Water Festival annual celebration in Phnom Penh.

 

According to H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, about 1,981 foreign visitors watched boat races from the pavilion.

The Ministry of Tourism builds the pavilion every year in order to attract more tourists and to encourage them to learn more about Cambodian culture, he explained.

At the pavilion, situated north of the honorary pavilion in front of the Royal Palace, all visitors are provided with beverage service, direct translation service, and headsets in three languages – English, French and Chinese.

This year, the Water Festival kicked off on Nov. 10 with boat races on the Tonle Sap River, in front of the Royal Palace, Phnom Penh.

Apart from boat races, “Loy Pratip” – the display of decorative lighted boats from different public institutions, “Sampeas Preah Khe” – Moon Festival, and “Ok Ambok” – a type of glutinous rice roasted and crushed with pestle eaten with banana or coconut juice, are the main events of the Water Festival.
