Phnom Penh, October 21, 2019 –His Majesty the King of Cambodia, Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, left here this morning for Japan to attend the Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty Naruhito as the Emperor of Japan to be held on Oct. 22.
The Cambodian monarch was seen off at Phnom Penh International Airport by Senate President Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, and Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen as well as many other senior officials, royal family members and Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia H.E. Mikami Masahiro.
According to a royal message dated Oct. 20, His Majesty the King will stay in Japan until Oct. 24, and during his absence, Samdech Say Chhum will act as the Acting Head of State.
His Majesty Naruhito, 59, ascended to the Chrysanthemum Throne on May 1, 2019, after the abdication of his father, His Majesty Akihito, 85, after three decades of his reign.
