Phnom Penh, October 20, 2019 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, paid in Jakarta, Indonesia this morning a courtesy visit to H.E. Joko Widodo, newly elected President of Indonesia to extend well-wishes to him and to discuss the bilateral cooperation between the two ASEAN nations.
According to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, during the meeting, H.E. Joko Widodo expressed warm welcome to and thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for attending his official inauguration ceremony as the President of Indonesia.
H.E. Joko Widodo highly valued the Cambodian Premier’s efforts in boosting the bilateral relations between Cambodia and Indonesia, noting their good collaboration, especially in the fields of health and air transport. But, he suggested attention to other potential areas such as rail and waterway transport.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the new Indonesian President for the invitation and conveyed regards from His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, to H.E. Joko Widodo.
The Prime Minister hoped that H.E. Joko Widodo will take his time to visit Cambodia as four former Indonesian presidents had also visited the Kingdom.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to raise Timor-Leste’s commitment to become the 11th member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), hoping that other ASEAN countries will approve the Timor-Leste’s membership in the bloc during their summit in Bangkok, Thailand later this year.
The Indonesian president shared the same ideas as Samdech Techo Prime Minister, stressing that it is good to accept Timor-Leste as a member of ASEAN.
Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen arrived in Jakarta yesterday afternoon to attend the official Inauguration Ceremony of H.E Joko Widodo and H.E. Ma’ruf Amin as the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
H.E. Joko Widodo was elected as President of the Republic of Indonesia for the second term 2019-2024 at the National Election on April 17 2019. The participation of Samdech Techo Prime Minister and other ASEAN dignitaries in the Inauguration Ceremony reflects the spirit of friendship and solidarity amongst ASEAN nations.
