Phnom Penh, October 12, 2019 –Cambodia and Canada have expressed their satisfaction with their existing bilateral relationship.
Cambodian Premier Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and outgoing Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Donica Pottie showed their satisfaction during their farewell meeting at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh yesterday afternoon, H.E. Sry Thamrong, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, told reporters after the meeting.
For trade exchange, the two-way trade between the two countries has already reached US$1 billion and the major exported Cambodian product to Canada is clothes.
The outgoing Canadian diplomat lauded Cambodia’s progress as well as its important contribution to the world peace by increasing its blue helmet troops, especially women, for UN peacekeeping missions.
Ms. Donica Pottie also highly valued the Royal Government’s attention to the welfare of factory workers, particularly the pregnant ones, in terms of workplace, wages and social protections.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Canada for its key role in the reconstruction and development of Cambodia.
The Premier briefed the outgoing Canadian Ambassador of the democratic process in Cambodia and announced the Kingdom’s support to Canada’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2021-2022.
