Phnom Penh, July 04, 2019 –Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen held talks with Director-General of World Trade Organisation (WTO) H.E. Roberto Azevêdo, in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday, on the sidelines of the Aid-for-Trade Global Review 2019.
According to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, in the meeting, H.E. Roberto Azevêdo thanked Cambodia for its contribution to WTO, especially for being the coordinator of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Group in WTO in 2017-2018.
H.E. Roberto Azevêdo congratulated Cambodia on its annual economic growth of around 7 percent in the last 20 years and gave his remarks on the partnership between Cambodia and WTO, e-commerce, investment, rice trading, etc.
The WTO director-general also expressed his hope that Cambodia will continue its participation in the multilateral trading system such as WTO.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed thanks to the WTO for its technical and other forms of support and cooperation with Cambodia.
The Prime Minister recalled the time when Cambodia became a member of WTO in 2004 and confirmed that WTO will remain a major partner of Cambodia.
Besides, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Roberto Azevêdo exchanged views on the Everything But Arms (EBA) scheme issue, trade conflicts, WTO’s reform, and so on.
