Phnom Penh, June 23, 2019 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has urged for more trade promotion in order to further boost development and progress in the ASEAN region as a whole.
The Cambodian Premier made the appeal at the Plenary Session of the 34th ASEAN Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday afternoon, reported the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK).
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Cambodia’s membership in ASEAN and since its accession, the Kingdom has well respected the principles and fulfilled its obligation, especially in maintaining peace, security, stability and boosting development and prosperity in the region, he said.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined that with the support from other nations, the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre, based in Cambodia, has been playing important role in response to the ASEAN’s vision.
The Plenary Session of the 34th ASEAN Summit focused on the core issues of ASEAN, enhancement of ASEAN’s capacity, particularly the reduction of development gap in the region, strengthening of ASEAN internal trade, and garbage management, mainly at the coastal areas.
The ASEAN leaders also exchanged views on climate change issue, solidarity, ASEAN connectivity, cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, and tourism. Morover, they agreed to continue promoting the ASEAN’s leverage.
