PM Hun Sen Very Sorry for Building Collapse Incident in Preah Sihanouk Province

Phnom Penh, June 22, 2019 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his sorrow over the loss of life due to the collapse of a seven-storey building in Preah Sihanoukville of Preah Sihanouk province early this morning.

“I would like to express my deep regret at the loss of life due to the negligence of the construction company,” said the Premier in a Facebook post this evening.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued that when he left for the ASEAN Summit in Thailand this morning, an under-construction building collapsed, killing and injuring many people. “Immediately, I ordered competent authorities and armed forces to rescue the victims,” he added.

“Even though I’m busy with meetings, I closely follow up the searching and rescue process which continues tonight,” said Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister is now in Bangkok, Thailand to attend the 34th ASEAN Summit and other related meetings until June 23.

Hundreds of competent forces have been deployed to the incident site to rescue the victims. According to a press release of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration, as of 8:00 pm, this evening, seven people have been reported dead, and 23 others injured, while the search for survivors continues.

Four people have been arrested for questioning and an investigation into the real cause of the collapse has been being conducted, stressed the same source in a separate press release.
