Cambodia, Hungary to Open their Embassies in 2021

Phnom Penh, June 14, 2019 —Cambodia and Hungary have agreed to open their Embassies in 2021 – during the 65th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relation.

The good news was driven by the happening state visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen to the central European country.

The agreement that Hungary will open its Embassy in Phnom Penh and Cambodia will open the Kingdom’s in Budapest was a key discussion during the meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Hungarian Prime Minister H.E. Viktor Orban on Jun. 13.

Exchanging mutual appreciation of growing bilateral relations and cooperation, the two leaders were positive that the opening of the embassies will bring their diplomatic tie to a new level.

Cambodia-Hungary diplomatic relation dates back from its origination on Sep. 20, 1956 and was interrupted during the genocide Khmer Rouge regime from 1975-1979.

Right after the fall of the dark period in 1979, the two countries renewed diplomatic relation, bringing about various assistances from Hungary for Cambodia to build peace and political stability and pave way for development.

As the relation between the two nations is flourishing, Samdech Techo Hun Sen makes his first state visit as the Prime Minister of Cambodia to Hungary to bring further boost bilateral cooperation.
