Hungary to Take Cambodia’s Side

 Phnom Penh, June 14, 2019—Hungary has reiterated its side on Cambodia and looks ahead to further boosting their cooperation within both bilateral and multi-lateral frameworks.

This was the spirit of a meeting on Jun. 13 between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Hungarian Prime Minister H.E. Viktor Orban in Hungary.

H.E. Viktor Orban started with a warm welcome and profound thanks for Samdech Techo Hun Sen to pay the first state visit in the role as Cambodian Prime Minister to the central European country.

Hungary is giving a priority to the cooperation between the European Union (EU) and ASEAN, while Cambodia under the leadership of Samdech Techo is playing a critical role in the region, underlined H.E. Viktor Orban.

In relation to the Everything But Arms (EBA) scheme, the Prime Minister understood that it is an on-going problem between Cambodia and the EU, however, Hungary will always side Cambodia as Hungary does not want to see any political, trade and economic mess.

He also gave a word to Samdech Techo Hun Sen that, Hungary will try to advocate the rest of European country on EBA issue in Cambodia.

From his end, Cambodian Prime Minister thanked the Hungarian counterpart for his warm hospitality and strong support for Cambodia, and he promised to visit Hungary again for the in-coming Budapest Water Summit 2019.

Taking the opportunity, Samdech Techo Hun Sen requested Hungary to look into possible assistance to rehabilitate Koh Ke temple of Cambodia.

The two friends also touched on the interest of Hungarian investment in Cambodia, particularly in banking.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen is leading his delegation for two-day state visit to Hungary from Jun 13-14.

After the visit in the country, Samdech Techo on Jun. 15 will lead his delegation for the 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe city of Tajikistan – where he will address key remarks and attend various side-line meetings.
