Phnom Penh, March 16, 2019 –The 5th River Festival in Kampong Chhnang province was officially opened this evening under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse, Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen.
The three-day event took place under the theme “River: Connecting Peace, People and Tourism”.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, some 500,000 visitors are expected to join this year’s festival which will feature cultural and sporting activities, as well as tree planting, seminars, tourism and Khmer product exhibitions and trade fairs.
River Festival is organised every year on a rotation basis by the riparian provinces. The first four River Festivals were celebrated in Kratie in 2015, Kampong Cham in 2016, Stung Treng in 2017, and Kandal in 2018.
