S. Korean President Leaves Cambodia after Three-day State Visit

 Phnom Penh, March 16, 2019 –President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) H.E. Moon Jae-in and his spouse this afternoon concluded their three-day state visit in Cambodia.

They were seen off upon their departure at Phnom Penh International Airport by Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Sam Ol, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace, and many other high-ranking officials.

On his official Facebook page this morning, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, spoke highly of the South Korean President’s visit, stressing that it enhanced the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The Cambodia-RoK Business Forum has provided warmth and confidence for Korean tourists and investors, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen, adding, “Cambodia thanks the South Korean Government for granting US$700 million as soft loan for the development of Cambodia for 2019-2023.”

While staying in Cambodia from Mar. 14 to 16, H.E. Moon Jae-in and his spouse were received in a royal audience by His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, and after that, the South Korean leader held a bilateral talk with Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Seven cooperation documents were reached during the state visit, five of which were signed at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh yesterday under the witness of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Moon Jae-in, after their bilateral meeting.

The signed documents include the coordination framework on soft loan of Economic Development Cooperation Fund for 2019-2023, soft loan agreement for the project of the establishment of the University of Health Sciences hospital, memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of RoK on power supply project for micro-electricity grids and battery charging station in Cambodia, memorandum of understanding on the bilateral cooperation between the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) on Korean investment facilitation, and memorandum of understanding between the Royal Academy of Cambodia and the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences of Korea.

The other two documents – soft loan agreement for rural road improvement project-phase 3, and memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation between KOTRA and Cambodia Constructors Association on construction material and equipment – have also been signed during the visit.

This morning, H.E. Moon Jae-in and his spouse visited Angkor Wat Temple and Preah Pithu Temple Group whose renovation work was funded by RoK.
