PM: Priority of Samdech Techo’s Legal Team is Female Suspects

Phnom Penh, March 05, 2019 –For the first step, Samdech Techo’s lawyer team will look into the cases of female suspects who have not been sent to court yet.

They will be provided with lawyers, underlined Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen while presiding over the celebration 108th International Women’s Day (Mar. 8) under the theme “Promotion of gender equity and social protection for human resource development” at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also urged the Ministries of Justice and Women’s Affairs to cooperate with the prisons to speed up the trial process.

According to the Premier, Samdech Techo’s legal team whose primary aim is to assist poor and vulnerable women is now composed of more than 60 members.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen has officially announced his decision to create a group of lawyers to assist the poor throughout the country last month. He said he had in hands some 2 billion Riel (about US$500,000) for the operation of this legal team.

Mr. Ky Tech, the Lawyer’s Council President, has been commissioned to form the group which will be launched in the near future. The group will be headed by a chief and four deputy chiefs.
