Phnom Penh, February 25, 2019 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, presided over here this morning the commemoration of National Clean City Day 2019 to promote tourism sector.
The National Clean City Day 2019, the 7th of its kind, was celebrated under theme “Clean City: City Feels the Warmth” in conjunction with the 3rd Awarding Ceremony of Samdech Techo Hun Sen Prime Minister Eco-Business Awards for Tourism, the Awarding Ceremony of the Best Countdown City of the Year, and the 1st Awarding Ceremony of Cambodia Public Toilets.
H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism said the celebration is aimed to further promote and enhance tourism services for all international and local visitors under the slogan of smart, clean and green.
H.E. Minister shared the achievements in the country’s tourism sector last year, saying that the number of foreign arrivals increased by 10.7 percent to 6.2 million international visitors, generating some US$4.35 billion income.
With other services and the efforts of the ministry and all stakeholders, he added, Cambodia expects to attract a total of 6.7 million foreign tourists this year and over 7 million in 2020, with US$5 billion income.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his congratulations to all winners and encouraged all stakeholders to further improve their respective products and services, along with warm hospitality.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted that tourism is one of the main driving forces to alleviate poverty in Cambodia, whose rate dropped to around 10 percent last year with the economic growth of 7.5 percent.
“Cambodian has now become a popular destination in the world and the Royal Government has regarded tourism as a green gold,” he underlined.
