Phnom Penh, January 14, 2019 –Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia and President of the 27th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-27), has encouraged all APPF members to increase the percentage of female membership in the legislative, executive and judiciary bodies as well as the private sector.
This is very important in contribution to achieve social welfare for women and girls in Asia-Pacific and the world, underlined Samdech Heng Samrin while presiding over the opening ceremony of the APPF-27’s Meeting of Women Parliamentarians held in Siem Reap provincial city this afternoon.
Economic empowerment of women is a key factor in boosting sustainable and inclusive development, he added.
Samdech Heng Samrin also highlighted Cambodia’s attention to women’s empowerment and gender equity promotion so as to increase women’s participation in the labour market, leadership, and political decision making.
This meeting is a key forum providing opportunity for all delegates to share experience and achievements of each participating country and to strengthen partnership in Asia-Pacific to attain common goals, he said.
