Cambodia Needs More Funds to Meet Energy Demand

 Phnom Penh, December 17, 2018 –Cambodia needs more financial support, especially from China, to invest in the energy sector to meet the energy demand, affirmed Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at the inauguration ceremony of Lower Sesan 2 hydropower plant in Stung Treng province this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said during his future visit to China, he will negotiate with the Chinese side for more concessional loans to build electricity grids in the country.

The Premier expressed welcome to the seven hydropower plants built and operated in Cambodia under the BOT agreement by Chinese developers.

The other six hydropower projects are Kirirom I (12MW) in Kampong Speu province, Kamchay (193MW) in Kampot province, Stung Atai (120MW) in Pursat province, Kirirom III (18MW), Lower Russei Chrum (338MW) and Stung Tatai (246MW) in Koh Kong province.
